Love 2023 Puppy & Heart Forever Stamp?
Celebrating 50 Years of the Love Series: Puppy & Heart Stamp
Why the Stamp Was Issued:
This stamp, issued alongside the 2023 Kitten and Heart stamp, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Love Series. It celebrates the theme of unconditional love, often exemplified by our pets.
Stamp Design:
The design features an adorable puppy with its paws resting on a red heart, with the word "LOVE" in all caps on a pink background. The image originates from an oil painting on wood panel by Chris Buzelli, which was then scanned and digitally refined for the stamp.
First Day City:
The First Day of Issue Ceremony took place in Austin, Texas, during the ??Austin Pets Alive!?? event. The USPS selected this event as it highlighted the organization's milestone of rescuing 100,000 pets, a testament to love in action.
About the Love Series:
The US Love Series began in 1973, and a new stamp has been issued almost every year since, typically timed for Valentine's Day mailings. The 2023 issuance marks the 50-year anniversary of this beloved series.
Historical Significance:
Dogs, often hailed as man??s best friend, have been loyal companions and vital helpers for centuries. Their ability to express affection and bond with humans is well-documented. Research has shown that dogs share similar hormonal and brain functions with humans when it comes to emotions like love. MRI scans reveal that dogs experience positive brain activity when they detect the scent of their owners, more so than with any other scents, including food.
Dogs demonstrate their affection in various ways, such as wagging their tails, leaning on their owners, following them around, sleeping nearby, and licking their faces. One of the most profound signs of a dog's love is sustained eye contact, a gesture reserved for those they trust deeply, as prolonged eye contact can be seen as a challenge in the canine world.
As pack animals, dogs seek companionship for safety and happiness. Knowing that your dog considers you a packmate is one of the most rewarding aspects of pet ownership.
This stamp, celebrating the deep bond between dogs and humans, is a fitting tribute to the enduring theme of love that has defined the Love Series for half a century.
