William F. Buckley, Jr. Forever Stamp 2025
The U.S. Postal Service honors William F. Buckley, Jr. (1925–2008), a major figure in 20th-century American political and intellectual life. As an author, publisher, and television host, Buckley played a significant role in shaping modern American conservatism.
The stamp features a dramatic black-and-white portrait based on a 1960s photograph by Steve Schapiro. Artist Dale Stephanos recreated the image by hand using graphite and charcoal before making digital refinements.
Buckley founded National Review in 1955, creating a prominent platform for conservative writers and ideas. He also became widely known as the host of Firing Line, a long-running public affairs program that began in 1966 and featured debates with guests representing different political viewpoints.
Over his career, Buckley wrote more than 50 books and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1991. He stepped down from National Review in 1990, while Firing Line continued until 1999 and was later revived on PBS.
Designed by art director Greg Breeding, the William F. Buckley, Jr. stamp is issued as a Forever stamp, valid for the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.
